Food Inc.

*Don't forget to enter my photography contest! You could win two pairs of earrings! Hurry, it ends tomorrow at midnight!*

This semester I have a Foods and Nutrition course. Today we finished watching a movie called Food Inc. I don't want to give away too much in case you end up seeing it, but it really made me think twice about the food I eat. It also made me think about what the food industry has become.

These days, with the use of engineering and technology, we have the power to control what we eat to the point where it's not very healthy. And I don't like it. I don't like the fact that more and more farms are turning into factories. I don't like that some chickens live in complete darkness up to the day they're killed. I don't like it at all.

I'm not a vegetarian, or a vegan. But for those of you who are, way to go! You guys are awesome because I don't think I could do that! I like eating meat, especially bacon. But after watching this movie, I think I'm going to try to keep meat to a minimum.

This movie is really good because it reveals the truth about the food industry and the secrets they're trying to hide. But I'm not saying you have to go watch it. It does include some sad parts of how the animals are killed. But I am glad that I did.

Have you seen this movie?
Do you eat meat? Why or why not?

Wealthy to be Healthy?

Have you ever noticed that organic foods are always more expensive than other regular food products. Or that a bag of baked chips costs more than your average salty ones. Or that going to a fast food restaurant is way cheaper than going to one with more healthier choices.

Everyone always tells you to eat healthy, to have a healthy body. It's easy, just eat from the four food groups, and eat other snack foods in moderation. But when healthier foods become pricey, and unhealthier foods are more reasonably priced, is it still so easy to make the right decisions when you're at the grocery store?

With the rising economy, costs shoot up too. Many are faced with this difficult food decision everyday. Some find it hard to even get food to survive.

Well, we've already established that money doesn't grow on trees. So now what? What's the solution? Get a good job, earn big bucks, and then you can buy every healthy food product you see? No.

People like you and me can help. We can all be the solution. We can help those who are less fortunate. God uses people everyday to help others! Let God use you.

We were made to help each other, and it's not that hard! Volunteer at food banks and food drives. You could solve people's food dilemmas by simply lending a helping hand. Eat healthy and help others do it too! You don't have to be wealthy to be healthy.
